Educational Visits

At Stickland's School we offer all our children a progressive range of experiences both on and off site, to engage, educate and enrich their lives.

All our children have the opportunity to take part in regular Forest School sessions, from Reception to Year 6, where they build on and develop a range of skills learnt, such as: making a range of knots and using them in action; den building; creating dream-catchers from our willow trees; whittling wood; toasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate over an open fire.

Within each class, the children have regular visitors, such as the ExplorerDome, Coding Workshops, visits from the Police, Fire Service and paramedics; a Viking re-enactment group; historical workshops and a range of visitors to promote our Career Related Learning approach. Throughout our Topic work the children also have many opportunities to visit a range of different places, such as: Sherborne castle, Bovington Tank Museum, Monkey World, the New Barn Field Centre, the Sea Life Centre, Nothe Fort, etc., enabling the children to gain that essential first-hand experience to deepen their understanding within History, Geography and Science.

Within our collaboration of schools, the children take part in annual music festivals at the Bridport Art Centre and Greenford School, looking at different instruments and learning a range of music styles. The children also have the opportunity to take part in an annual theatre trip, to watch a production on a larger scale.

We are lucky that our children are offered a vast number of sporting opportunities; this involves learning new skills and taking part in a variety of competitions and events at our local schools. In years 3/4, the children take part in water activities, such as SUP, windsurfing, etc. In years 5/6, the children will go on a biannual residential at Portland Outdoor Centre, to take part in a wider range of adventurous activities, such as: coasteering and abseiling; they also spend a day at Parkdean's Warmwell Holiday park, where they complete a high ropes course and try ringoing on the dry ski slopes.

All of these opportunities are invaluable for our children and provide those experiences that will enrich their lives, both now and in the future.
